“We want to continue putting out strong messages”

B.A.P, who has received a lot of rookie awards since debuting last year in January, will finally be making their entrance in Japan’s music scene. Their debut song will be the same “Warrior” that left a vivid impression when they debuted with it in Korea. With their debut in Japan imminent, we have asked the six of them to freely share with us how they currently feel.

You will finally be debuting in Japan. How were your honest feelings when it was decided?
Daehyun: Because I wanted to hurry and formally meet our the Japanese audience, I was really happy, thinking “Finally, it’s decided!”
Himchan: Since we have been given the wonderful opportunity to make our debut in Japan, I want everyone to expect a lot from us.
Yongguk: I heard that the music we are doing, a Hip Hop base with a strong message, is not really big in Japan, so I’m expecting a lot from our activities there.

Please tell us more about your debut song “Warrior”
Yongguk: The message is against our unjust society. We’ve always used our music and our performances to deliver some kind of message ever since we debuted and we want to continue doing so even in Japan.
Youngjae: (in Japanese) It’s a manly song, and the most B.A.P-like.

Youngjae, your Japanese is very good.
Youngjae: It’s far from it.
Himchan: (in Japanese) Younjae’s the best at Japanese in B.A.P! We’re all relying on him (laughs).

Zelo, you are a master of fast rapping, but wasn’t it hard in Japanese?
Zelo: My Japanese is still not very good so in order to be as clear as possible I had to be very aware and record my parts over and over again.

Tell us about something challenging that happened during the music video filming.
Daehyun: In the Korean version we used both fire and wind , but we added water for the Japanese version. I think you’ll find that the water scene looks very cool but we were soaking wet… But since it was summer it was refreshing and fun.

I know that the filming took two full days, were you able to sleep properly?
Jongup: Since we know that filming music videos takes a long time, we always make sure to sleep a lot before starting (laughs).

How was everyone when filming was done?
Himchan: We went back to the dorms and slept right away (laughs).
Zelo: It’s not only restricted to this time but even though I give it my all during filming, I always find myself regretting and thinking “I should’ve done it that way instead” when we’re done.

This way you can do you best again the following time and learn out of it.
Zelo: That’s right.

We want to know what your personalities are like so please introduce the person next to you.
Yongguk: Youngjae is smart and is the kind of person that can get along with pretty much anyone. His flaw… I guess he’s a little talkative.
Youngjae: (laughs). Zelo’s the youngest so he’s very cute, but he’s too tall! I’m envious.
Zelo: Jongup has a very pure and manly personality.
Jongup: Himchan is very outgoing and sociable, the type that could survive anywhere. And he’s a little mischievous.
Himchan: Daehyun is like Youngjae in that he’s also talkative (laughs). But he’s the most handsome in B.A.P!
Daehyun: Thank you (laughs). Yongguk is a man among men! As the leader, he takes care warmly of every single one of us.

What is your impression of the Japanese fans?
Daehyun: They are very polite and well mannered. They listen very well when we sing, so we can really concentrate when we are on stage.
Jongup: Japan has a very particular culture and fashion is very original. For our concert in May, there was a fan that cosplayed as Zelo and it was great!

It seems you can see the fans pretty well from the stage.
Jongup: We see a lot more than everyone thinks we do, and we actually have quite a lot of eye contact with the fans.

Please tell us about your arena tour this fall.
Himchan: The arena tour will take place after we have officially debuted in Japan, so it should be a little different than the concert we held last May. We will also be singing songs in Japanese, and we’d like to adapt it to the taste of our Japanese fans.

Is there something you want to do in Japan?
Daehyun: I want to go on a hot spring trip!
Youngjae: I want to go to the hot springs in Akita! Ever since watching the drama “Iris” it’s been somewhere I wanted to go to.
Himchan: But right now, the concerts are the things we are looking forward to the most.
Everyone: Of course!
