B.A.P: Dangerous Zone for the inexperienced

Q: Congratulations on your #1 [with "1004]"! Until now you showed the overflowing charisma of the warrior image, but with "1004" you grew into dandy, sexy men, expressing sadness over a break with a lover. The transformation of the 6 of you is a hot topic.
HC: If you say we were "boys" up until now, we're "men" this time. We worked to show a matured image.
YJ: Until now we consciously put powerful looks into our performances, but this time we softened that, focusing on the world of the lyrics.
D: We worked to express the sadness of despairing men, how was it? I'm interested in how it was received by everyone.

Q: The performance this time is sensitive yet powerful at the same time, I feel.
YG: Our image and movements will become even more polished and quick from now on.
HC: The MV [for "1004"] has some "Matrix" style choreography, a day before filming Zelo and Jongup thought about it with our choreographer instructor.
JU: We were mulling over it for days, but then suddenly the idea came.
D: In the middle of this song is choreography from the image of a monster.
Z: It's difficult to explain this dance in words.
HC: If the the song before this was an "explosion" with our street fighter image, the song this time is like a polished knife "slice" to counter that.
Z: We wanted to make choreography that would stick in people's minds.

Q: The ["1004"] MV is very impressive, please tell us about some of your favourite scenes.
HC: My favourite scene is where I'm sitting on the sofa, stroking my jaw and crying. That scene became very emotional during filming. Tears came naturally when I thought about the lyrics.
YJ: For me, when I smash the mirror and cry alone. I think I was able to empathize well.
Z: I like the scene where Himchan is holding the gun looking into the mirror, and Youngjae's crying scene is cool! For my scenes…I have no favourites (laughs)

Q: If you had to award someone with the "Best Preformance" in this MV, who would you choose?
HC: I would absolutely choose the actress. She was the best (laughs)
YJ: That's true!
JU: I personally think Himchan-hyung was the best actor.
HC: Everyone~ Applause, applause! (laughs)
D: More than anyone else, Himchan was able to enter the world of the lyrics.
HC: The filming was long and very tiring, but everyone saying this for me makes me feel good. Thank you!
JU: Next it would be fun to have an MV filming members playing naturally. At the ocean or a hotel, doing choreo only for a playful image.
YJ: It'd be nice to do MV filming during a trip around the world with everyone!

Q: Yongguk? Your thoughts?
YG: Even if I give some ideas, they'll be ones that won't get filmed (laughs) [T/N he said they'll be NG, so "no good" or turned down or not used] But someday I want to try making the MV concept ourselves.

Q: From the lyrics I get a sense that there is something that irritates each member? What are your personalities like?
HC: We're not irritable at all. But we also don't deal with things. If we think "Huh?" [about something] we'll disagree right away. So we are not the types to get angry over nothing (laughs)
YJ: The ones who disagree right away are Himchan and Daehyun. Yongguk is the type to not say anything if he disagrees, think it over calmly once, and if he still disagrees then he will speak up! I'm the type to have a wave of different emotions then get tired (laughs)
D: I think I'm the innocent/guiltless type, right?
YG: I'm the unsociable type (laughs)
YJ: The youngest members Zelo and Jongup will not force their own opinions but rather go with that of us older members.

Q: The youngest are doing well!
HC: They're too cute (laughs)
YG: They are really kind kids, the pride of our group
HC: Zelo in particular worries about many things. Seems he's at that age. He's the type to think things out alone and imagine many things.

Q: Is it true that sometimes when Zelo & Jongup talk together, they get super excited about strange things that the older members can't understand?
D: They're still young so they get interested in many things (laughs) Lately they get excited talking about outer space, right?
Z: Yes, we're really interested in outer space.
YJ: Even if they ask us questions, none of the older members can answer.
HC: Like when they ask "What if a meteor collided with satellite?" …right?
D: We have no idea~
HC: If they collided, then it'd be specific the time they collided (laughs)
YJ: The older members are laughing like this, but the two of them talking together are always talking seriously.

Q: Jongup, did you ever find an answer?
JU: I'm sure I did but…I don't remember (laughs)
D: It's always like this (laughs)

Q: Yongguk and Hicmhan have known each other for a long time, right? The way you interact with each other and the younger members, fans have been calling you husband and wife, it seems.
HC: When travelling overseas, Yongguk and I always share a room. Yongguk really doesn't talk much, so I am talking to myself the WHOLE TIME (laughs). I don't know if he's listening to me or not, but I will earnestly keep talking, if there's anything I'm worried about I'll spill it out, and Yongguk will answer something with incredibly few words. That's the relationship we have.

Q: How are the other rooms split up?
HC: By age. Daehyun & Youngjae, Zelo & Jongup.
YJ: Daehyun and I are not stiff like a husband and wife, but "Just friend!" [in English] Together we have fun or talk about our worries, if we have them…
D: We're good friends!

Q: I'm interested in how you guys spend your time in the dorm, are there any specific rules?
JU: Lately we have been busy so we split up cleaning and laundry….so the dorm is really clean!
HC: Talking about who is in charge of what, lately Jongup is in charge of going to the super market or convenience store (laughs)
YJ: In our dorm, there are different ways we spend and want to spend time so there are not any specific rules or anything like that.
HC: Also we never have feedback sessions over that day's performance at our dorm. Every performance, at that venue we have our feedback session. We do a video check soon after leaving the stage, and try to change anything that is lacking before leaving the venue.

Q: I heard that Zelo talks in his sleep.
Z: I never knew I did, but I found out when the members told me I do. Actually lately there are times I do it on purpose (laughs)
YG: EH? Really?
Z: Hyungs said that my sleep talking is cute, so I thought it would make you guys happy…(laughs)
JU: At first it was weird and cute, but I'm used to it now. Zelo's turn for the shower is last, so he often falls asleep waiting since he's tired. When I get out of the shower, he is usually sleeping. Because I feel bad for him I want to let him sleep, but even thinking that I do my best to wake him up. At that time, Zelo's sleep talking is really terrible! I put up with it silently though! But those times was it actually fake sleep talking…(laughs)
Z: I only do it on purpose SOMETIMES! Please believe me~ I thought it would make you guys happy…
YG: I'm shocked (laughs)
Z: Ah! But that time could have been on purpose, but now that I think about it I think I was really asleep….(forced laughter) Because I don't really remember it. I was a bit conscious at first, but I was actually sleeping I think.
JU: At times like this, as a group we can recall some wonderful memories (laughs)

Q: Yongguk, you share your favourite movies and books and other things on SNS. Who are writers you like, or creations that have left an impression on you?
YG: I like the point of view of surrealist painter René Magritte. Also the movie I watched lately that left an impression was "New Cinema Paradise" [T/N: there are different titles for this, also goes by "Cinema Paradiso" and the original title is "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso"]. It's a famous movie, but I hadn't seen it up until now, an acquaintence recommended it to me and I watched it for the first time. It was amazingly good, so I recommended it to Jongup and Zelo too. Just [they said] "We'll watch it 5 years from now."
JU: Yongguk knows everything about anything, I learned a lot from him.
YG: But more than me, fans know about these things, when I upload something fans know more about it than me. It seems like there are a lot of art majors amongst our fans. There are many people who send me beautiful art recommendations, and there are many things I learned from fans. The hearts of the fans who love art are one with our hearts, it's really beneficial I think.

Q: Speaking of art, Himchan also takes a lot of pictures, right?
HC: Since I was in high school I was interested in photography and took pictures using film, but lately it's digital. I took nothing but scenery photos then fans requested selca from me. (laughs)

Q: On that note, compared to other groups the amount of selca you post are few, right?
HC: Huh? We don't post many? That's the first time I hear this!
YJ: It's not many~ Other groups post them frequently.
JU: We have to try putting more energy into selca from now on!
Z: Taking good selca is about the angle and the lighting. If you take them in a right place, most times they turn out well.

Q: Soon the Japanese version of "No Mercy" will be released.
HC: The Japanese lyrics are difficult, it was very difficult matching the lyrics and music.
YG: It's been about a year since we released the Korean version. Before we had a rough image, but in this version we're a bit more mature, I feel.
YJ: We have a lot more experience now on stage than we did at that time, and each member is able to show their appeal more. This is of course a bit early to say, but compared to the other version this one shows more growth.
JU: In the Japanese lyrics there is a part that says "To the next level with you," but when I first heard it I wondered why there was something about taking someone up Mt. Everest in our song (laughs) [T/N: it SORT of sounds like "next level of Everest" in Japanese….but I think a lot of this is just Jongup being Jongup ^^;;]
HC: Before having meanings explained, there were a lot of times like that (laughs)
D: Also, All the food in Japan is delicious, I love it.
HC: The high quality of the sandwiches and lunch boxes left for us in our dressing rooms in Japan surprised us (laughs)
JU: I still can't forget the curry udon that we ate before. It was in a giant dish at that shop!
YJ: The dishes at that shop were so big, they're sizes to share with someone.
Z: The contents of Japanese lunch boxes are tasteful, and there are a lot of different things in them. The price is a bit higher but they're delicious and remain in your memory.

Q: Going back to Jongup's comment about "The next level." What sort of image do you as a group want to take facing a new world?
HC: Together, we talked about how this year is very important to us. We talked about how we'd spend this year, how we'd eagerly go about accomplishing it. We're hoping that come January 1st of next year, we will be satisfied with what we have done. That's what we're doing this year! We don't want to have any regrets about life!
YG: We'll be happy if after working hard this year we can open a new world. Whether in Korea, Japan, we always use the full power of all our members. Please, continue to support us from now on as well!
