First interaction with B.A.P:
When Trendy magazine came to B.A.P’s practice room, although it’s already late at night, there was still a big number of fans waiting outside at a temperature of nearly below 0. Through this, we can see B.A.P’s super high popularity. The B.A.P members and their manager not only prepared cute cookies and drinks for us but also made cute microphones with their own names on them, waiting in their practice room for Trendy to come. From our first meeting, they’re not only very polite, full of vitality but also have unique greeting ways which left a very deep impression. In comparison to the strong and cool image they gave us on stage, from their smiles, they actually gave out the feel of a bit of shyness and boys-next-door charisma.
Looking into the members’ charisma:
To let everyone have a deeper understanding of members, this time the B.A.P members did not do self-introductions. Through the point of view of other members, they introduced each other in details.
Youngjae: “I want to introduce this handsome boy, Daehyun from Busan. He’s always passionate towards singing and under his handsome appearance, with a mature mind, he’s steady but without losing his innocence. If I want to use a sentence to describe him, it’s ‘A perfect man that can sing and is handsome’. ” After listening to Youngjae’s introduction, Daehyun smiled happily and shook hands with Youngjae, sheepishly looking down.
In Daehyun’s eyes: “Himchan puts every effort in everything he does, you can say that he is a ‘harworking pretty boy type’. A while back, although he was injured he still kept practicing and completed the performance perfectly. His efforts have inspired the other members too. He’s also our indispensable atmosphere maker!”
Himchan, who’s known Yongguk the longest and with whom he has a close relationship, said: “Yongguk is a very competent and reliable leader. He’s a music lover who’s unable to leave music. Cool and handsome, recently because of the love from fans his preferences have changed a bit… he started to love dolls…” Himchan’s unexpected revelation caused the other members to laugh, saying Himchan made leader’s image weird. Leader Yongguk clarified: “That’s because those gifts were given by fans, so I particularly cherish them. I’m not a weird person!”.
In order to change the atmosphere, leader Yongguk quickly introduced the cute maknae of the group: “Zelo is the youngest among us but he’s full of talents and courage in multiple fields. He’s B.A.P’s sunshine charm maknae. He loves to challenge. His expectations of himself are very high, including his appearance. He pays great attention to his own image.”
Upon hearing the leader’s description of himself, Zelo stuck out his tongue, smiled and turned to look at Jongup who was sitting beside him. He tilted his head on the side, cutely thinking as he said: “Jongup hyung is only 1 year older than me but his character and body figure look more mature than mine. He’s the dance and strength representative in our group! And because of his strength, I got a lot of help from him! Hehe~”
Lastly, B.A.P’s power representative, Jongup, also gave Youngjae a powerful description: “Youngjae’s very smart, he’s organized and a logical perfectionist. But he has a sentimental and soft voice. His favourite music is soul music.”
10 Q&A about B.A.P:
Q: Your first single ‘Warrior’ received very good results, what do you guys think about this single?
Yongguk: Although this is B.A.P’s first single, the participation of the members was very important. By choosing social issues rather than love for our first main song, when it was released publicly on networks it quickly received a high response. This had us pleasantly surprised and we hope everyone will love our song and get to know more about B.A.P.
Q: B.A.P’s debut and the announcements of the members were very different. During Bang&Zelo promotions, did you feel any pressure? Does the single ‘Never Give Up’ portray you two’s feelings?
Zelo: Rather than saying it’s pressure, it felt like a mission! I’m B.A.P’s maknae, but I was actually worried. Can I really represent this group? I practiced very hard so when I stood on stage, the responsability of having the team’s honour on my shoulders made me forget my worries.
Yongguk: It should be said that ‘Never Give Up’ is the portrayal of the feelings of every member. We also wanted to convey the thoughts and feelings of chasing your dreams and putting in effort to those who are about the same age like us or those who are chasing their dreams. As you’re working hard towards your dream, you can listen to this song and cheer for one another.
Q: Himchan took the challenge of becoming an MC, was it interesting? What is the hardest part of an MC job? Himchan started to learn traditional music since youth and he’s able to play many traditional instruments. By joining B.A.P, who’s leaning more towards the popular front-end, did you feel like there was any clashes between these two kinds of music? Or is it actually complementing?
Himchan: Through trying MC jobs before debut I’ve learned a lot and because of this, I’ve gained a lot of valuable experience. It is very useful for my stage performances now. As for the music part, maybe it’s because I’ve learnt it since youth but there are no categorisation of music. The strong foundation that I’ve built through learning traditional music is now a great help to me.
Q: Jongup earned the nickname ‘Dancing Genius’, what do you think about this nickname? During the learning (dancing) process, what is the strength that supports you?
Jongup: It’s too over-praised. *laugh* I’m just very fond of dancing. However, we experienced big challenges during the learning process of the choreography of our main song. We encouraged each other when any of us were exhausted or lost. This is the strength that supported me.
Q: Daehyun earned the nickname ‘Busan Wonbin’, what are the pros and cons of having a handsome appearance? When do you think you’re the most handsome?
Daehyun: Haha~ this is embarrassing, it’s just an awesome nickname that was given to me by fans. I think I’m the most handsome when I am all prepared before going to perform on stage!
Q: Youngjae earned the nickname ‘Brain’, can anyone explain it?
Everyone agreed: Youngjae can handle every single condition on the spot. He’s smart and calm, provides useful advice and helps the group all the time.
Youngjae: I don’t think I’m smart. It’s just because I have the habit of analysing every problems or situation thoroughly. Thus, everyone agreed that I’m an organized person.
Q: Since your debut, the various aspects of B.A.P’s performances are very eye-catching. Are there any differences from before and after your debut? After having debuted, is there anything that made you guys feel exceptionally touched or left you with deep impression?
Himchan: We gained many fans, some of them even wait for us outside the practice room or TV station. (the members nodded their heads in agreement)
Yongguk: I think I was the most impressed and touched during our debut showcase. At the stadium that can hold thousands of people, many fans came to support us and they filled the stadium. We were very touched and we’ll work harder in the future to pay back the loves we get from fans.
Q: After your debut, there were many chances to interact with fans. Were there any memorable moments?
(Upon hearing this question, everyone smiled together)
Daehyun: There are many memorable moments. However, a while back, something interesting happened. On February 14th (Valentine’s Day) when we were performing in Jeju, because our hair colour is the same and we wear caps and masks in the airport, and also similar clothes, fans mistook members and gave chocolate to the wrong member….
Jongup: Not only fans, sometimes even ourselves mistook each other.
Upon hearing Jongup’s word, members started laughing: “This is true!! Especially our backview, we sometimes make mistakes too.”
Q: All members of B.A.P are living in the same dorm together, can you guys share any interesting dorm-life moments?
Suddenly, everyone smiled and looked at Zelo. Zelo smiled embarrassingly and lowered his head.
Jongup: Actually when we’re all tired, we’ll talk in our sleep. But Zelo is the most special among us, he always says many funny things when he’s half awake.
Daehyun: Although I feel sorry for Zelo, this is too funny! Sometimes we’ll purposely disturb Zelo. We slightly wake him up to listen what he’s going to say.
Yongguk: The most recent topic Zelo talked about in his dream was “Shopping Bag”. But as he can’t remember what he said, we can’t understand the whole situation.
Zelo shrugged and waved his hands : I really can’t remember it!
Q: In the highly competitive korean music industry, what kind of boy group does B.A.P want to be?
Yongguk: We hope that we can become a group that will bring up the Hallyu wave. We will continue to work hard and bring many different sides of B.A.P to everyone. We’ll work hard!
