Bottom Part (Interview)

When it comes to B.A.P, it is “Warrior.”

When you were planning to have Japan debut, we heard that you also considered making a debut with Japan original songs, but why did you decide to make a debut with your Korean debut single, “Warrior”?

YG: We wanted people to know and notice us at first, so we thought about which might be the right song to represent and describe B.A.P. Then we came to this conclusion that “Warrior” is the best song for our debut.

HC: Anyhow, I just want to go on a stage and show our performances to people in Japan. But I’m a little worried if our hardcore and tough image would be accepted by them.

How was your first music recording in Japanese?

YG: I never imagined myself rapping in Japanese before, but it was actually fun doing it.

ZL: I also enjoyed rapping in Japanese, but some part of the rapping in the middle of the song was a little fast in rhythm, so that was really difficult for me.

<<Then one of the staff said “They were actually doing great than we imagined. They finished the recordings in 5 takes, and we were surprised with their skills.” and explained how the recording went for this Japan debut single.>>

ZL: (Being a little shy) Recording staffs helped us and taught us really well, so we were able to finish it in a few takes.

MV also has a lot of cool and manly images, but how was the filming with the rain(water)? Was it difficult?

JU: It was really tough filming that scene, but because we wanted to show everything of us in that short 4 min MV, we worked very hard together. In the Korean version of “Warrior” MV, we used a lot of fire and it was really hot during the filming, but this time, we had a pleasant filming in that scene using water. That time, I really wanted to go to the beach, so I enjoyed myself in the water imaging myself playing in the ocean. (laughs)

Was there any advice from your senior group, Secret, who made a Japan debut before you?

DH: They gave us an advice to be polite and decent before doing anything.

Thinking about “Warrior”=fighter, is there anything you are fighting against right now?

HC: I’m fighting against my weight. I’m trying to go on a diet and lose some weight by reducing the amount I eat.

DH: High notes. (laughs) Because my part always has high notes.

JU: Tiredness. To avoid any injuries of accidents, I never forget having some warm-ups before I go on stage.

ZL: My aura. I’m still young, so I want to have a matured and manly aura.

YJ: Japanese. I want to improve my Japanese skill more!

YG: Speaking of now, sleepiness. (laughs)

<<Not only their high performance skill, but B.A.P became popular with their unique characteristics. To understand more about each member’s personalities, we gave them some questions related to their childhood stories and privacies.>>

Sending message to the society by volunteering

Yongguk, you participate in writing lyrics in most of the songs, and like the lyrics in “Warrior,” which has a message of fighting for the life, other songs also have messages related to social issue and problems around the world. What made you so interested in these social issues?

YG: When I was a child, I used to live with my grandfather who liked to watch news, and I remember myself sitting next to him watching the news program together. So I got interested in issues around the world naturally, but I still read books and watch news to have wide concern on those topics.

We heard that you were 2nd grade in Junior High school when you first wrote lyrics for raps.

YG: Yes. I feel sorry for my fans because I don’t have enough time to work on my lyrics lately, due to the busy schedule and activities. However, maybe after the fall season, along with the activities we have in Japan, I would like to work on it with our fans. It would be nice if we can have some activities together with our Japanese fans.

Himchan, you used to go to junior high and high school in National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts where they specialize in traditional music, but what made you lead to that particular area?

HC: My older sister used to go there before I did, and I got interested in this area when I went to see her performance. I was only 6th grade then, but I thought “Wow!! Traditional music is cool!!” (laughs) I was major in Tegum(Korean flute) in junior high, and Changguk(Korean drum) in high school. When I was a student, I was scouted by few production companies, but I rejected all of them since I wanted to be a musician or a music teacher in traditional music.
